How to Wear and Care for Your Rudraksha Mala
Step-by-step guidance on wearing your mala correctly and keeping it in good condition for years.

First Time Wearing
Before wearing your Rudraksha mala for the first time, it is customary to purify it. You can wash the beads gently with clean water or, if you have access, with a few drops of Gangajal (Ganges water). Let them dry in a clean, shaded place.
Auspicious Day and Mantra
Monday is considered the most auspicious day to start wearing Rudraksha. Chant Om Namah Shivaya 108 times while holding the mala, then wear it around your neck or wrist.
Daily Care
- Remove the mala before bathing or swimming to protect the thread and beads.
- Once a month, apply a thin layer of natural oil (mustard, sesame, or olive) to keep the beads from drying and cracking.
- Store in a soft cloth or pouch when not in use, away from direct sunlight and humidity.
What to Avoid
- Perfumes, hair spray, or harsh chemicals on the beads
- Leaving the mala in the bathroom or in direct sun
- Wearing during activities that could snag or damage the thread
